It was an early Saturday morning in Humble, Texas and this Central Texas newborn photographer had finally arrived at the Fresh Light Photography studio. When I stepped in to the charming studio owned by Leigh Bolton Ripps. I was greeted with a friendly hug. Leigh’s studio looks just like her photography, soft and airy, and filled with magnificent natural light.  The room was already blisteringly hot from the space heater preparing the room for the day. Soon, the studio would be filled with newborn models and ten talented photographers eager to hone their newborn photography skills. The Newborn Inspired Workshop is the brain child of celebrity maternity, newborn, and baby photographer, Julie Rollins. Julie, based in Los Angeles, is known for her ethereal use of soft, natural light, and sleepy curly newborn images set against a creamy white background. I’ve long admired her work and was as giddy as a school girl for the opportunity to learn from her.

We spent the day watching Julie prepare, pose, and soothe the newborn for optimal results. We worked side by side with her as she graciously shared her knowledge and gave individual instruction and critique of our images on everything from white balance and composition.

The end of the day was filled with everything from education, to post processing and business advice. The workshop was everything I’d hoped it to be and more. I made new friends, learned some new techniques, and lost a couple of pounds from sweating (did I mention the room was hot?).

Continuing my photography education on a regular basis feeds my creative desire to polish my skills and deliver unforgettable imagery to my clients. My personal business philosophy is to never stop learning and growing as an artist. My goal is to produce breathtaking images that my clients will adorn their homes with and cherish for a lifetime.
