A few weeks ago I spent the evening photographing, Regan. She did her session very early at 25 weeks because she unexpectedly delivered her first baby at 28 weeks. She didn’t want to miss her chance this time. Spending time with her and listening to her voice her concerns, fear, and a bit of anxiety about the unknown of this pregnancy really got me thinking.

So, here’s a little real talk.

 As a photographer of motherhood I clearly think it’s beautiful and magical and some of my happiest moments of my life. But, I’ve been thinking a lot lately about how we romanticize pregnancy and how wonderful it is.

I must admit, I’ve been guilty of it too. For some women this is very true, but for other, not so much.

But, we can probably agree that pregnancy comes with a host of physical and emotional changes too. First of all, our bodies morph into something we don’t recognize, we don’t sleep, we get anxiety, we get all types of aches and pains, we get tired beyond belief, we pee 24/7, we get swollen, and the list goes on.

So, I just want to say, if you are pregnant, or felt this way during your pregnancy, don’t fear…you are not alone.

On a positive note…I loved meeting Regan. She’s warm, friendly, easy going, and a natural beauty. Thank you, Regan, for the opportunity to share a small part of your legacy.

I wish nothing but the best for you and your little miracle growing inside you.
