I get it, finding the right photographer for you is much like finding a great fitting pair of jeans. If you are anything like me, that’s not an easy task! There are so many options based on location, style, experience, personality, convenience, specialty, and even cost. So, how do you find the right match to fit your needs?
I’ve got 5 tips for finding the right newborn photographer for you!
Tip 1: Getting to know the Photographer.
I recommend beginning by checking out the bio page of the photographer’s website. This is where you will get a glimpse into the photographer’s personality. Do you get a sense of who they are? Do you feel a connection?

Tip 2: Experience.
How much experience does the photographer have? And, how did they obtain their expertise? For me, it was essential to focus on what I love to capture and sharpen my skills in that specific genre. I can’t get enough of the miracle of those sweet squishy newborns that smell like heaven on earth. Long before I was a newborn photographer, I was a Labor and Delivery nurse. This experience gave me years of practice on safe handling of a newborn. To date, I have handled hundreds of newborns. Once, I decided to become a newborn photographer; I mentored with some of the most talented photographers in the business to refine my craft and safety practices.
Tip 3: Style.
What style of newborn photography are you drawn too? Do you like soft, light and airy photos with most of the focus on your baby? Do you love lots of colors? Do you prefer a photographer who uses lots of props? My style of newborn photography is soft and organic, with neutral tones and pale color palates void of props to keep your baby the focus of attention.

Tip 4: What do they offer?
Will you spend hours looking for the perfect accessories?
I prefer to take all that work out of your hands. You’re tired, and you’re pregnant, you have enough to think about with your new arrival on the way. Or better yet, you’ve just delivered, and you want nothing more than someone to let you get three uninterrupted hours of sleep. My studio is stocked with a beautiful assortment of wraps, blankets, hats, and headbands. You will have full access to all of this. I have everything you need to get those gorgeous images. All you have to do is show up, chill out on my comfy couch, and I will handle the rest! Ahhh…now doesn’t that sound awesome?!
Tip 5: Schedule Your Session Early.
Once you’ve decided on the perfect newborn photographer to capture your darling baby, contact the photographer and schedule your session BEFORE your baby arrives. Many newborn photographer’s book months in advance. This will ensure you get a date on the photographer’s schedule. I typically book newborn session 4-6 weeks in advance.

Austin Newborn Photographers.
Stella…7 days new.
It was a beautiful sunny day in January when your mama walked into the studio with you.
I was smitten with you at first site. You are perfect in every way and remind me of a dainty little china doll with your soft and delicate features. Your jet black hair falls perfectly around your itsy- bitsy little face. But, as teeny as you are you have the sweetest chubby little rose-colored cheeks. You are a perfect little darling and were a dream to photograph.
“May you touch dragonflies and stars, dance with fairies, and talk to the moon. May you grow up with love and gracious hearts, and people who care. Welcome to the world little one. It’s been waiting for you.”
Thank you, Kelly, for sharing your little miracle with me!

Wedding hair is so pretty! There are so many types of wedding hairstyles for the timeless bride to create your perfect wedding day style. If you’re a bride planning your wedding day look, I imagine the endless possibilities can seem a bit overwhelming. I’ve seen so many beautiful hairstyles, and there appears to be a variation of four basic styles.
The Up-Do. This is a classic look through and through. It’s an elegant style that offers a ton of variation and the ability to add interesting details. They can be sleek and sophisticated or done in a looser, more relaxed fashion. Both are gorgeous! They also lend well to adding details like flowers, ribbons, and other hair accessories.
Half Up, Half Down. This is another lovely trend with so many possibilities. The part that is up can be braided or twisted and embellished with all sorts of interesting hair accessories while the bottom is left loose and flowing.
Side Swept Braids. The side-swept braid is laid back and romantic with a more casual, natural, or boho inspiration. The twist looks lovely in a french braid, fishtail, or classic plait.
Soft and Loose. Wedding day hair that is kept down in long and loose curls is perfect for a natural bride, to showcase luscious long locks, or for a the more casual, boho, or beachy bride. Hair that is kept down is beautiful when the wind blows and creates a sense of movement.
Things to consider when choosing your wedding day hairstyle.
What is the feeling you want to portray? Are you timeless and classic or more fun loving, girl next door type?
What type of hairstyle best suits your dress? The neckline?
Do you mind if your hair is in your face or do you want it up and out of the way all day?
With all the endless choices, you’ll look stunning no matter what you decide.

Samuel…An Incredible Birth Story
This sweet boy came bursting into the world with quit an amazing birth story!
It was a typical Tuesday for Johnson family. Then, about 4 pm, Libby’s water broke. Over the next few hours, her contractions increased with frequency and intensity pretty quickly.
By the time they left the house to drive to the hospital the contractions were 4 minutes apart and unbearable to talk through. The highway was stacked with construction traffic making impossible to drive at the speed limit. Feeling the need to go to the bathroom, they pulled over at a gas station. It was difficult to get out of the car, and to the bathroom, with the intense contraction, Libby was experiencing. Ironically, the gas station was full of off-duty firefighters. One of them made a light-hearted joke that he could deliver the baby right there if he needed too…uh-oh!
Once inside the bathroom, Libby had an uncontrollable urge to push. A woman in the bathroom with Libby went and got her husband, Greg, and one of the firefighters. The paramedics were called and Libby was loaded into the ambulance and whisked away to the nearest hospital. “I can’t believe how protected and watched over I felt. I had complete peace about what was going on.”
On November 28th at 11:38 pm Samuel Judah was born just 30 minutes after arriving at the hospital. “I pulled him up to my chest. It was an amazing, surreal experience that I will never forget. We saw immediately that he was a boy (since we waited to find out)!! I loved looking at his sweet little face all wide-eyed and almost shocked at what had just happened! He was 9 pounds and 4 ounces, and 22 inches long.”
Welcome to the world, Samuel Judah.
Greg and Libby, congratulations and thank you for sharing your sweet boy and incredible story with me!
